I See You

If I receive a gift, that really touches me,
Because someone knew me well enough,
The sweetness is most precious-
I feel so very loved.

That gesture, kindness, thoughtfulness,
Strikes such a tender chord,
As pet names also gently say -
' Dear one, I love you more.'

If someone takes my hand in theirs,
To turn it to and fro,
And says -'Your hands are very precious'-
They mean, 'I truly love you so.'

Such caring warms the heart with wonder,
To be known, accepted, understood,
For in life's rush, fears, hurt and prejudice-
Real love is beautiful.

Lord, help me then, to know Your heart,
So nothing breaks the love,
May I accept You love me-
So I will always have enough.

Enough to see past awkward barriers,
The walls, that rise so very high,
To reach the ones that need Your love-
Please, may I have Your eyes.

To know Your grace, all giving love,
To peek behind the masks, the steel,
To touch with gentle loving words-
Regardless how afraid I feel.

May I 'see' with mercy and forgiveness,
To handle all that comes,
To pray, I see you in God's image-
'I see you,' you are loved.
