Mommy Told You

Little one what did I say,
You should listen more,
Instead of doing things,
You know that I abhor.

It really isn't nice of you,
To keep getting in trouble,
Why did you take the lid off,
Pouring out all the bubbles?

Don't you know I'll find out,
Especially when I slip and fall,
Soap is really very slickly,
Now there's no use to squall.

You are intelligent and,
Usually you are so good,
I just can't understand,
Not doing as you should.

Mommy told you no more than once,
That should have been the end,
Not waiting 'til I wasn't looking,
For mischievousness to descend.

You are tired and getting sleepy,
You are my precious little girl,
We must take a bath and wash away,
The soap bubbles from your curls,

You have had a big day,
Not all of it so nice,
Tomorrow will be better,
You'll follow my advice.

Mommy told you for a reason,
It's not just to make you sad,
I am trying to teach you to,
Know the good from the bad.

It's bedtime now my angel girl,
All clean and sparkling like the sun,
Hair smells so sweet and fragrant,
As if the day had just begun.

Oh, you want a bedtime story,
Jesus and the whale you say,
I guess you sorta feel a kinship,
As disobedience rules the day.

Close your eyes sweet baby mine,
Prayer time is now at hand,
Talk to Jesus precious baby,
Let His love in your heart expand.

He will always be there with you,
Even on "Mommy Told You" days,
Jesus loves you just as I sweet one,
Together His loving Name we'll praise.
