Looking today through grownup eyes
What a sure foundation she laid;
Built by love, and constant endurance
And always when my Mother prayed.
The times were hard, so everyone said
But Mom didn't mind who she'd feed
I never noticed those hard times at all
For God would supply all we'd need.
Now and then, seemed trouble would come
But whenever things would go wrong;
Mama started singing and talking to God
And the bad times never lasted that long.
Our greatest activities outside our home
Was the Church where we'd all attend;
The Preacher would preach, the Choir would sing
The children would meet all their friends.
Mother never worried where we kids were
She taught us to know right from wrong;
She gave the choice to each one of us
If you can't play pretty........ stay home.
We learned about God at a very young age
We earned the respect we received;
With kind gentle hands, and love in her heart
Mother's teaching began on her knees.
A Mother's a treasure, a pearl of great price
More than wealth are these memories I own;
Committing each child into God's tender care
And God was the head of our home.
At a very young age, we learned about God,
It's better to give than receive;
With a soft touch and abounding love
Mother's teaching began on her knees.
To you dear Mothers just starting a home
Your actions outweigh what you say;
Your commitment to God and your family
Is much easier if you learn to pray.
