Must Be Love
I thought the first time I saw her,
She was a dream of all dreams.
My eyes were not really seeing,
What I'd thought I'd seen.

Her long and lovely spotted neck
Was what attracted me.
I think her eyes were just the shade,
That they really needed to be.

With my heart just throbbing,
I thought I couldn't wait,
So I intended to ask her,
If maybe we could date.

With all these thoughts,
Running through my mind I,
Wasn't paying much attention
Who was coming up behind.

An old buddy making eyes at her,
Sent jealousy through my heart.
My poor timing cost me love,
So I lost her from the start.

He use to be a friend of mine,
Close as we could be.
We'd run the fields together,
Just like family.

I guess we could still be friends,
It's hard to hold a grudge,
And maybe it was my fault,
I'm not the one to judge.

You say how foolish,
How can an animal fall in love?
Well they have feelings too,
Just like turtle doves.

Animals have hearts to love,
The same as we do.
A tiny kitten has a need to cuddle,
Close as it can to you.

Puppies play as they grow together,
And wait for a pat or two.
They wait with anticipation,
Just for hours waiting for you.

Wild animals are just the same,
They need the love and care,
As those that have no home,
And no one's love to share.

I have a sweet cat I wouldn't trade,
For all the money in the world.
We need each other for comfort,
As in my lap she curls.

She understands most of what I say,
I know her dislikes, she knows that too,
Half an onion on the cabinet will keep her,
Off for she knows the rules.

We get along just fine,
For we are family.
I sure need Precious,
And Precious sure needs me.
