Native’s Pride

In fourteen ninety they came
To settle on this land.
They left, escaping tyranny
From King’s oppressive hand.

And so they came to build a place
Where they at last could be,
A free and independent folk,
In search of liberty.

But little did these pilgrims know,
While traveling ‘cross the sea,
That there were cultures living here,
Who lived with dignity.

These Native people lived in Tribes,
Each separate and distinct.
Each had a culture of their own,
And yet these Tribes were linked.

They shared a oneness with the land;
Their loyalties were pure.
They lived respecting nature’s laws;
Their way of life was sure.

These noble people made with pride
The items they would need,
And with their skills they handed down,
Their culture to their seed.

Their elders were respected ones,
They taught their youth to work.
They each performed their needed tasks,
Though danger often lurked.

They lived with gratitude and faith,
Their Gods would guide their way.
Their Shamans would give guidance through,
Inspired words they’d say.

And so these humble people lived
And still they live today,
Persisting as examples of
A Life, A Better Way.
