Happy New Year

We are facing a New Year soon,
And all my resolutions won't be met,
I'd like to think that I'd correct,
All those things that I regret.

But as life will have it,
I'm human and missed the chance,
To do things I should have done,
Now I see them at second glance.

I plan to start the New year,
And do everything just right,
But will I have the courage to do them,
Or has my courage taken flight.

We promise ourselves that we will start,
With the habits that hold us down,
We'll beat those urges that compel us,
To have one more with no one else around.

I plan to be more kind to others,
And help them when I can,
I'll say those comforting words to them,
As I sit and hold their hand.

I'll pray for my enemies who hurt me,
And try to love them too,
It's hard to love some people,
Because of the things they say and do.

But life goes on and we're not perfect,
So do the best you can,
And make this year a year of joy,
And make it full of happy plans.

Shoot off those fire works,
If you enjoy that kind of thing,
Get together for a cookout in the yard,
You'd be surprised at the joy it brings.

Invite the neighbors over,
The best way to heal ordeals,
For who ever doesn't enjoy,
A good hot bar-b-cue meal.

I'm feeling better already,
And I'm going to start today,
Changing things I should've changed,
All along the way.

Today is Veteran's Day,
And that makes us stop and peek,
With Flags flying high in the wind,
As tears run down our cheeks.

The New Year will bring new things,
Both good and bad,
So dwell on all the good things,
That 2009 has had.

Celebrate the New Year,
And don't forget to change,
The things that should have never been,
And your life won't be the same.
