Picking Time

The harvest has ripened,
Fruit and vegetables ready to eat,
Labor has been fulfilled,
Now the fruits are ever sweet.

God blessed us with the rain,
Warm sun to help them grow,
Color showing in every field,
Makes my heart all aglow.

Peaches and Apples firm,
Sweet right to the pit and core,
Juice runs down the chin,
Making us reach for more.

Pumpkins all ready for making pies,
Gourds for all kinds of decorations,
Cabbage made the biggest heads,
Plenty to share with our relations.

Potatoes to bake or maybe cream,
Rutabagas ever so tasty and yummy,
I can taste them now Oh my,
They will sure feel good in my tummy.

A bountiful feast we have before us,
Blessed by the Lord in time of need,
All the hard work has paid off,
We can reap the sowing of the seed.

Before they are put away,
Daddy always shares with others,
Neighbors down the street or,
A young struggling Mother.

God blesses us and we must return,
Giving to those less blessed,
Letting them know whence they came,
This is a gift of God he would stress.

We never had a lot in material things yet,
I always felt as rich as I could be,
I can't remember ever going hungry,
I know my Mother and Daddy would agree.

One day I will have another picking time,
Just as when I was a little child,
Mother and Daddy can taste the fruit,
Wipe the juice and give a smile.

Heaven's Harvest will be grand,
Most plentiful you will ever see,
It will feed every one there,
What a Glorious Jubilee.
