Wings Of An Eagle

The skies are made more beautiful,
By birds of every kind,
But the one chosen for our National Bird,
Is the most beautiful you will find.

The Eagle was chosen most likely,
By its beauty, power and strength,
Admired by all who see it,
With his wings an unbelieving length.

Eagles have few predators,
Other than man as number one,
Occasional attacks by other Bald Eagles,
Raccoons or Horned Owls if young are left alone.

With an Eagle's wing span and strength,
They can fly to ten thousand feet,
Flying thirty to thirty-five miles per hour,
A forceful remarkable speed.

Their diet is mainly fish,
And they are strong swimmers,
An advantage to catching food,
In exception to cold bad Winters.

Their excellent eye sight,
Provides them with hunting skills.
They build their nests in large trees,
Near rivers or coasts among the hills.

Many birds are watched and admired,
By bird watchers everywhere,
But most admire the Eagles,
And their powerful glaring stare.

Bald Eagles may live for twenty to thirty years.
Their hearing not exceptionally found,
But Eagles and Hawks like other birds,
Locate their prey by sound.

Once Eagles are paired,
Live in fidelity for life,
Faithful to each other,
Until one dies.

It's not believed that Eagles fear people,
But are cautious and steer away.
They are not a friendly bird,
And they hunt both night and day.

Eagles do not migrate as most birds,
They move only as far as is necessary,
To find open water and food,
That is most accessible in their area.

They soar in the sky,
Like feathers in the wind,
Graceful, powerful, and strong,
And search for food and then descend.
